As a refresher, the term Gen Z refers to people born between the mid-to-late 1990s and the early 2010s, while the older Millennials were born between 1981 and 1996. As these demographics continue to age, they are gaining buying power and shaping new norms as consumers.
For financial marketers, understanding and adapting to the changing habits of Gen Z and Millennials across streaming, social media and AI-powered platforms is crucial to establishing authentic connections with these digital-natives.
To better understand these cohorts, their media use and preferences, as well as financial content interests, Media Logic conducted a survey of 400 Gen Z respondents aged 18-27 years-old and 400 Millennials aged 28-43 years-old across the nation.

Key Insights for Financial Marketers: Gen Z and Millennials are spending more time than ever on social media, streaming platforms, and the internet, making these their go-to sources for news and entertainment. Platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok dominate for both generations, while Facebook remains a Millennial favorite and Snapchat shows strength with Gen Z. Short, engaging videos are the preferred content format, with music narrowly edging out friends and family as the most captivating social media topic. Financial content is also a key area of interest, with savings strategies leading the way, followed by budgeting, financial independence, and investing. Importantly, social media and mobile app ads significantly influence financial product consideration, highlighting the power of these channels in shaping decisions.
