App Spotlight: Goodfood
Now that there are hundreds of thousands of mobile applications available across all mobile platforms, it really takes a lot for an app to impress me. Well, Goodrec was able to do just that earlier this week, when I was looking for new apps to download in Palm’s app store. While searching, I stumbled upon what I call “mobile app gold” when I downloaded and tried out Goodfood.
Goodfood, which is very similar to Yelp, is a geo-location app that uses your phone’s GPS to pinpoint your location. Once your location is determined, the app finds nearby restaurants and displays their location using Google Maps. You can also set preferences for any type of cuisine you can think of. Forty-one different choices are currently listed. Once you select the cuisine, you can break it down by price, distance and user rating. After adjusting your settings to meet your needs, the application will refresh and bring up a refreshed map with the newly selected preferences. From here you’re able to dig down into each restaurant, get exact prices, read user reviews, and even see pictures of the food (if another user has submitted a photo to the database) to get an idea of what you can expect. Great for figuring out portion sizes!
Overall, I’m very impressed with what Goodfood has to offer its users, and give Goodrec 10 out of 10 for this app. Bottom line: it is very useful, especially when traveling. Here’s to finding a new favorite eatery, and driving business to those places that are highly recommended!
Restaurateurs, get ready… your menus are mobile and there’s an app for that! Seize the opportunity.
Goodfood is also available on the iPhone, Android and Blackberry. Check it out today!
